Harley Reid & Sons recently completed a family bathroom and large ensuite installation in Kingswells, transforming an outdated space into a modern, practical family bathroom.
The project involved removing the existing bathroom and en-suite. The main plumbing and central heating arteries were removed and reconfigured to allow a split level to be removed in the ensuite, creating a greater floor area and sense of space, throughout. Custom panelling was designed and hand crafted by Harley Reid & Sons to meet customers aspiration and installed throughout both rooms, delivering consistency within the home.

CLIENT CHALLENGE
The homeowner contacted Harley Reid & Sons with an ambitious brief: a full refurbishment of both their family bathroom and a large en-suite, with a consistent design running across both spaces.
The en-suite presented a significant structural challenge. A split-level floor had long made the room feel smaller and more awkward than it needed to be, but removing it wasn’t simply a cosmetic decision – the main plumbing and central heating pipework running through the space would need to be fully reconfigured before the level could be resolved. It was the kind of job that required careful planning before a single tile was lifted.
The client also had a clear vision for how both rooms should feel: cohesive, considered, and finished to a standard that reflected the quality of the home. Off-the-shelf solutions weren’t going to cut it.
OUR APPROACH
To begin, the Harley Reid & Sons team stripped out both existing rooms and assessed the full scope of the structural and plumbing work required in the en-suite before any new installation could begin. This included:
- Removing and fully reconfiguring the main plumbing and central heating pipework to allow the split-level floor to be eliminated
- Levelling the en-suite to create a greater, more open floor area throughout
- Designing, hand-crafting, and installing bespoke timber panelling across both rooms to deliver a consistent finish
- Laying porcelain tiles throughout
- Installing underfloor heating in both rooms
- Fitting modern bathroom suites with new plumbing, fixtures, and fittings
- Improving layout and storage across both spaces
The bespoke panelling was designed and built in-house by the Harley Reid & Sons team to meet the exact specifications and aesthetic the client had in mind. Running the same design language across both rooms was a deliberate choice that gives the finished spaces a cohesion that feels intentional rather than coincidental.
THE RESULT
Five weeks of skilled, coordinated work delivered two rooms that feel like they belong together. The en-suite, freed from its split-level floor and opened up through the reconfiguration of the pipework beneath, now has the sense of space the room always had the potential for. Porcelain tiles and underfloor heating run throughout both rooms, creating a warm, high-quality finish underfoot.
The handcrafted panelling is the element that sets this project apart. Designed and built by the Harley Reid & Sons team to the client’s brief, it brings a level of craftsmanship and personalisation that no off-the-shelf product could replicate – and carries a consistent design thread from the family bathroom through to the en-suite.
