The company was founded by Craig Reid, whose passion for plumbing was formed early on, while helping his grandfather, father, and uncle with their traditional plumbing business in the Scottish borders.
Watching them work with care and pride taught him the value of doing things properly and doing right by the customer, shaped by generations of family influence.
From Oil & Gas to Pipes & Wrenches
Craig carved out a successful career in the oil and gas industry, quickly rising through leadership roles.
But even during his time in corporate, he was still the guy friends called for plumbing help on weekends.
In 2021, he decided it was time to get back to what he always wanted – working with his hands, solving problems, and delivering quality work that people can rely on.
His return brought a renewed focus on being an honest and professional tradesman, proud to serve the community as a trusted plumber in Aberdeenshire.
What’s in a Name?
The name Harley Reid & Sons is a reflection of Craig’s story. ‘Harley’ comes from his grandfather on his mum’s side – a man known for his business mind and strong character. ‘Reid’ represents the plumbing lineage of his Papa Watt, Dad, and Uncle. ‘Sons’ nods to Craig himself and the idea that this is more than a business – it’s a continuation of a family way of working, built on generational plumbing expertise passed down through decades.

Harley Reid & Sons has grown into more than just Craig. Behind every job is a team that shares the same values: quality, care, and doing things properly.
James Piercy joined the team in November 2023 as our second plumber. A talented plumbing and heating engineer, James has become a huge asset to the business, bringing the same attention to detail and pride in his work that Harley Reid & Sons was built on.
Paul Stewart joined us in April 2025. A time-served joiner with over 18 years’ experience, Paul adds a level of quality and precision to carpentry work that takes our bathroom installations to the next level — the kind of finishing touch that makes all the difference.
Together, the team brings decades of combined trade experience to every project, big or small.
